Vassa Mustikahati

Doctoral Student | Wolfson College

About me

Vassa is an early childhood educator from Indonesia, currently reading for a DPhil in Education at the University of Oxford, funded by the Indonesia Endowment Fund for Education (LPDP). She began her career as a preschool teacher, an experience that has informed her ongoing work in early childhood education and care.

Her doctoral research explores how young children’s digital engagement is understood and addressed across family, early childhood education, and policy contexts in Indonesia. It examines the relationship between children’s everyday digital experiences and the systems and policies intended to support their development and well-being.

Before starting her DPhil, Vassa led curriculum development at an impact-driven startup working to make childcare more accessible in Indonesia. She also served as an Expert Advisor at Indonesia’s Coordinating Ministry for Human Development and Cultural Affairs and was part of the National Taskforce for AI Talent Development, with a focus on the implications of AI for education and child development.

She holds an MSc in Education (Child Development and Education) from the University of Oxford and a bachelor’s degree in Psychology through a joint-degree program between the Universitas Indonesia and The University of Queensland.
