Xinyue is a DPhil student in the Department of Education at the University of Oxford. Her doctoral research explores the potential of AI to support language learning. Specifically, she aims to investigate how the distribution of practice, including spacing and task diversity, affects L2 Mandarin vocabulary acquisition and retention with Omniloquent, an AI-based language learning app developed by Oxford Language Technologies Ltd.
Her longstanding research interests centre around the role of technology in second language learning and communication. She has explored not only its effectiveness in improving learning outcomes, but also how technology shapes learners’ experiences and well-being throughout the learning process. More broadly, she has a wide range of interdisciplinary interests spanning the philosophy of artificial intelligence, human–AI interaction, human psychology and cognition, and industrial design.
Before joining the DPhil programme, Xinyue obtained an MSc degree in Applied Linguistics and Second Language Acquisition with distinction at Oxford. She holds a BA in English from Qingdao University, China, where she studied through an innovative interdisciplinary programme incorporating corpus linguistics and natural language processing.
