A language and reading intervention programme for Chile

The Project

This project has developed and evaluated  a combined reading and language intervention for children from a disadvantaged population living on a remote Chilean island (Robinson Crusoe Island).

This population is known to have high rates of language and reading difficulties.  The study has shown that the combined intervention is helpful in improving children’s decoding (reading aloud) skills as well as their language and reading comprehension skills.

External project members include, Dianne Newbury, Oxford Brookes University (PI), Maggie Snowling, Oxford University (CI) and Carol Mesa, Oxford University
