Research Assistant

Job role

About the Role

We are seeking a Research Assistant to join the RESULT (Researching Student Understandings of Languages Teaching) project. Reporting to Dr Laura Molway (Project Lead) and supported by Dr Robert Woore (Co-Lead), you will contribute to a study evaluating a research-informed Pupil Perception Survey (PPS) as a tool for teachers’ professional learning.

You will be involved in all aspects of the research, including collecting data through teacher interviews, lesson observations and surveys, as well as analysing findings and contributing to report writing. The project follows teachers and their language classes over four academic terms and examines the reliability, validity and usefulness of PPS, pupils’ experiences of language lessons, and how teachers respond to feedback.

You will manage your own work and timelines, undertake basic statistical analyses using R, and analyse qualitative data by coding into themes. You will produce clear, concise written outputs for a range of audiences. The role offers opportunities to develop COLT-protocol observation coding skills and contribute to co-authored outputs.

Applicants should hold a first degree with relevant experience and be working towards a doctorate in a related discipline. You will demonstrate competence in basic statistical analysis using R, strong analytical skills and sound judgement, and the ability to manage your own workload. Excellent communication skills are essential, including the ability to write concisely and effectively.

This post is offered on a part-time basis at 15 hours per week, fixed-term until 5 June 2028.

Applications must be submitted by 12:00 noon on Monday 22 June 2026.

Please include a CV and a supporting statement outlining how you meet the selection criteria.
