Department of Education recognised in Vice-Chancellor’s Awards shortlist

The University of Oxford has announced the shortlist for the Vice-Chancellor’s Awards 2026, with the Department of Education recognised five times across four categories.

Support for Students Award

The Neurodivergent Education for Students, Teaching and Learning (NESTL) project, co-led by Dr Xin Xu, is a collaborative, co-created effort aimed at transforming Oxford’s learning environment through inclusive, evidence-based resources and research.

Research Culture Award

Papers with Purpose: Transforming Research Culture through Writing, led by Dr Nici Sims, is a collaboration between the Department and the University of Cape Town. The programme transforms research culture through capacity development and community building among scholars from underrepresented contexts.

The Spotlight on LGBTQ+ Research event, organised by DPhil students Jonny Tridgell and Milo Edwards, brings together students, academics and professional services staff from across all divisions to share, promote, and reflect on LGBTQ+ research.

Commercialisation and Entrepreneurship Award

OxTrack, led by Dr David Johnson, has been recognised for translating research into practical application. The tool assesses teacher competences across 48 knowledge domains enabling teachers to compare results with national averages and receive personalised feedback.

Local Community Engagement Award

The Oxford Education Deanery team (Dr Hamish ChalmersDr Laura Molway, Joe Bullough, Dr Kim Polgreen and Dr Travis Fuchs) connect expertise from the Department with local secondary school teachers and students to support sustainability education and research.

All are welcome to attend the Awards Showcase in the Schwarzman Centre for the Humanities on Tuesday 2 June, where shortlisted nominees will have an opportunity to demonstrate and discuss their work.

Winners will be announced on 4 June at a ceremony at the Schwarzman Centre for Humanities.
