About me

Shravya Mallavarapu is a DPhil student at the Department of Education. She is an Oxford–Indira Gandhi Scholar supported by the Oxford India Centre for Sustainable Development (OICSD). Her doctoral research focuses on internally displaced persons (IDPs) in India, examining how conflict-induced displacement shapes children’s educational experiences and how existing policies and institutions respond to their educational needs.

Before joining Oxford, Shravya spent nearly a decade working across education research, policy and practice in India and internationally. Her professional experience includes roles with the Government of Telangana, UNICEF, Central Square Foundation, the OECD’s Directorate for Education and Skills and ASER Centre. Her work has spanned foundational learning at the pre-primary and primary levels, teacher development and reform, and child rights, with a particular emphasis on public education systems.

Her current research is situated within a broader interest in questions of inclusion and exclusion in public education, particularly for communities at the margins of existing policy and institutional frameworks. She is also interested in the effects of neoliberal reforms on public education institutions and the changing role of non-governmental organisations (NGOs) in the design and implementation of education policy.

Shravya holds a Master of Education from Harvard University and a BA (Hons.) in Philosophy from St. Stephen’s College, University of Delhi.
