Xuedan Yan is a doctoral student in the Department of Education at the University of Oxford. Her research is situated within sociology and geography of education, examining the ‘international space’ of higher education through students’ spatial imaginings and strategical negotiations with the space. Her work responds to the dynamic nature of the geopolitical landscape, particularly in the context of de-globalization sentiments and China’s trajectory of de-westernization.
Xuedan has strong research interests in international student mobility, the internationalization and globalization of higher education, social stratification in education and geo-politics of knowledge production
Before beginning her DPhil, Xuedan earned an MA in Education and International Development with Distinction from University College London. She also holds a BA in English Education from Southwest University in China, where she received multiple scholarships, including one to study in Canada as university representative. Xuedan has worked across various educational sectors including public high school and several educational organizations, gaining valuable experience that informs her research perspective.
