Evaluation of the University of Nottingham’s onebillion Mathematics Intervention

The Project

The onebillion mathematics intervention implemented by the University of Nottingham involves two education apps covering topics such as counting (in three levels, up to 100), shape and position (vocabulary), measures (length, time, mass and capacity), addition and subtraction (arithmetic with pictures, number bonds and number line work), sharing, and fractions (half and quarter). These are organised as 18 topics. The activities are expected to work as self-teaching; no teacher intervention is expected.

In evaluating this project, the Oxford research team will analyse the impact of the onebillion apps on mathematical achievement as measured by the Progress Test in Maths. Participants are pupils in Year 1 pupils identified by their teachers as requiring extra support in maths.
