The enactment of part-time timetables in English schools

The Project

Adopting a policy enactment framing, this mixed methods research study will investigate how national policy on the use of part-time timetables is being interpreted, translated, and put into practice in England. In particular, the project aims to examine the different reasons behind the use of part-time timetables, including if and how part-time timetables are being used in relation to school exclusion.

The project will take advantage of new and unexplored sources of data to examine the prevalence and reasons for the use of part-time timetables and gain insights from different stakeholders working in two different local authority areas to understand what motivates the use of part-time timetables. The findings from the study will have important implications for ensuring that all children receive their right to a full-time education.
