Professor Liam Gearon and Emma Williams (University of Warwick) have successfully secured a bid for the Society for Educational Studies Annual Colloquium. This year the Colloquium will be on Writers and their Education and held at Oriel College, University of Oxford from 20-21 September 2018.

The Colloquium brings together scholarly examination of conceptions, perceptions and representations of education in the life and works of writers across all genres – literary and popular, cross-age fiction, including children’s literature – with a critical appraisal of their significance and value for the academic field of Education Studies.

Liam Gearon and Emma Williams have an established collaborative track record of scholarship research at the interface of philosophy, literature and education. They have been holders of a PESGB large grant for a 2016 Seminar Series on Philosophy, Literature and Education, successfully hosting expert forums for educationalists, philosophers and writers at Harris Manchester College, University of Oxford, the University of Warwick, and the British Academy, London. In 2017 they were appointed Guest Editors of the Journal of Philosophy of Education for a Special Issue on Philosophy, Literature and Education.
